Isolate fluids - water/water, water/oil, ensure safe to work on or remove.

Clean in situ:

  1. Drain down both liquids, collect and dispose of environmentally and safely.
  2. Disconnect hose connection or pipework on end covers.
  3. Release end cover bolts or nuts.
  4. Leave one connection in place and use to retain tube bundle in position at both ends by turning the end cover round to expose the whole of both tubesheets holes but covering a small area of the edge of each tubesheet to prevent the bundle from escaping from the cylinder.
  5. Assemble kit/brush. Start with the smallest size of brush.
  6. Locate brush in first hole, slowly feed the rod and brush attachment rotating in a clockwise motion.
  7. If using a cordless drill start slowly and maintain a level position. Slowly move the rod forward, wait for brush to exit the far end of bundle and then pull back whilst still rotationg in a clockwise direction.
  8. If cleaning manually push and rotate until the brush exits the bundle at the far end then pull back whilst still rotating until the brush clears the tube.
  9. Repeat this process with all the tubes. Any tube found to be badly blocked should be marked and returned to later when all tubes have been cleaned. The marked tubes may need repeated attempts at cleaning to achieve success. In some cases tubes completely blocked with hard scale may need to be drilled first.
  10. When tubes have been cleaned wash through with clear water.
  11. Fit new 'O' rings.
  12. Remove deposits from the inside of the end covers, lightly grease the bolts and nuts and re-assemble heat exchanger as removed.
  13. Clean and store your cleaning kit. Order a new set of 'O' rings from dealer.
